Research activities
Niels Jak conducts research in the programme ‘Balancing Public and Private Interests’ of the VU University Amsterdam Centre for Law & Governance. The research is part of the subprogramme ‘Regulation and organization in the semi-public domain’.
His thesis is about semi-public organizations. These are private bodies which are exercising a public function – think of organizations in the different utility sectors – or are institutionally connected with the government, like state-owned enterprises. Central research questions concern the applicability of public law standards, public accountability and democratic legitimacy.
