Victor van der Geest wins Societal Impact Award
Van der Geest received the award for his doctoral research about young delinquents.

Victor van der Geest, assistant professor/researcher Criminology, has won the VU Junior Societal Impact Award 2011. He received the award for his doctoral research about young (male) delinquents; a research with a considerable societal impact. The award was presented during the celebration of the 131st birthday of VU University Amsterdam.
In his research Van der Geest found that working has a positive influence on young men with a criminal past. His dissertation was awarded the qualification ‘cum laude’ and is titled: ‘Working their Way into Adulthood. Delinquency and employment in high-risk boys to age 32’.
Societal Impact Award
The Societal Impact Award spotlights research being carried out at VU University Amsterdam that has an impact on society. The Junior Societal Impact Award is for a PhD candidate who has completed a PhD research at VU University within the last year, which could have a potentially significant impact on society.
